Doesn't time fly when you're having fun?? ......or juggling loads of balls at the same time and hoping that none of them fall??? Today is Sugar Cane's official first birthday as a published novel. Hoorrah! As I look back at the last 12 months I can see that we've come a long way and the learning curve has been exceptionally steep, but with a sigh I can definitely say that the pain, blood, sweat and tears has been worth it. It's a good moment for me to take a step back and truly appreciate what we have achieved. Being an author is what I aspire to be but very few of us have the privilege of being able to dedicate our lives 100% to our dreams. Over the last 12 months, without counting Sugar Cane & SandyBred Publishing and all of its trappings; I have moved house, been promoted at work (yes, I have a full time "proper" job), worried myself sick over the health of a close family member, worried myself sick over my own health, started an MA English Literature, joined writers groups, attended reading group meetings, given blood and conversed with Benjamin Zephaniah about Mauritius. I now have my own web page, a twitter account, a Facebook account and have a "fan" page (which never ceases to amuse me) and all in all, there are over 2000 people who "follow" what I get up to and I have no idea how they don't get bored of my nonsense.....of course, they may already do but if they keep following I'm not going to complain and really do like having them around - too many smiles and laughs along the way to count. Life has a funny way of taking you on journeys you didn't know you had to plan for. I suppose that's how we keep it interesting. The next 12 months have a lot in store for me. I can see the tide coming. It's time to hold on tight and put on my arm bands and see where the sea takes me. Well, anyway, enough of my babbling. Just wanted to say that the last year has been a pleasure and I really do hope that you're coming along for the ride as I continue to write. And I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and interest in me and the nonsense that I spout. Here's to puns, jokes, stupid pictures of dogs and to my finally finishing "The Earring Tree", this side of Christmas.
Thank you. E. xxxx
